A Brief History Of Microwave Ovens

Microwave oven were conceived by Percy Spencer in 1945, a radar engineer who noticed that a candy bar in his pocket melted when he stood near a magnetron tube. Spencer then placed popcorn kernels in front of the tube, and they popped. This led him to design the first microwave oven, which was called the “Radarange.”

The early microwave ovens were big, expensive, and mostly utilized in commercial kitchens. It wasn’t until the 1960s that smaller, more economical machines became available for household usage. Since then, microwave ovens have seen numerous technological breakthroughs, making them faster, more efficient, and easier to operate.

Types Of Microwave Ovens

There are various varieties of microwave ovens available, each with its own set of features and advantages. These include:

Countertop Microwaves Oven

Countertop microwaves are the most prevalent type of microwave oven and are meant to sit on a kitchen countertop. They are often less expensive than other types of microwaves, and they come in a wide range of sizes and shapes to accommodate any kitchen.

Built In Microwaves Oven

Built-in microwaves are designed to be fitted into a cabinet or wall, giving your kitchen a sleek, integrated look. They are normally more expensive than countertop ones, but they conserve important counter space and create a streamlined design.

Over The Range Microwaves Oven

Over-the-range microwaves are mounted above a stove or cooktop and come with built-in ventilation systems. They are a good solution if you have limited counter space or want to preserve room in your kitchen.

Drawer Microwaves Oven

Drawer microwaves are put in a kitchen cabinet or island and slide out like a drawer. They are an excellent alternative if you want to keep your microwave out of sight or have limited counter or cabinet space.

Features To Consider Of Microwaves Oven

When purchasing a microwave oven, there are various factors to consider. These include:

Wattage

Microwave wattage controls how soon your food will cook. The higher the wattage, the faster your meal will cook. Most microwaves have wattage ratings between 600 and 1200 watts, with higher-end versions having up to 1800 watts.

Size

Microwave size is determined by its internal capacity, measured in cubic feet. The size you choose will depend on the amount of food you plan to cook and the space you have available in your kitchen.

Turntable

Most microwaves come with a revolving turntable, which helps to ensure equal heating of your food. Some higher-end models also have a rectangular-shaped tray or a stationary base instead of a turntable.

Sensor Cooking

Many microwaves include sensors that detect when your food is cooked and turn off the oven automatically. This feature is particularly beneficial for cooking stuff like popcorn, potatoes, and reheating leftovers.

Convection Cooking

Convection microwaves use a fan and heating element to circulate hot air, resulting in food that is crispier and browner than in a standard microwave. They are more expensive than regular microwaves, but they may also be used for baking, roasting, and grilling.
